What to Expect: Coaching & Technical Fellowship

Over 6 months, participants in the Coaching & Technical Fellowship will work side-by-side with United’s technical staff to develop in all aspects of the game of soccer, as well as the art & science of coaching. This includes:

- Training Session Observation & Reflection
- Team & Individual Player Analysis 
- First Team Technical Meetings
- Development of Coaching Philosophy

The entire New Mexico United technical team is committed to the development of the Fellowship Program participants. For those currently coaching, New Mexico United technical staff will attend practices led by that Fellow and provide constructive feedback. Participants will also have the opportunity to see the application of their learnings across First Team, U23 and High Performance Youth Program training sessions for a holistic perspective of the game and its athletes. Head Coach and Technical Director, Troy Lesesne, will serve as a resource to participants in determining next steps and establishing a career path and concrete next steps. 

Fellows will receive a stipend upon completion of the program to promote continued licensure that will help candidates take next steps for their career in coaching.

To be considered for Fellowship with New Mexico United’s Coaching & Technical Team, candidates must:

- Be a person of color and/or female.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Have a passion for and knowledge of New Mexico United, soccer, the USL and the sports industry.
- Be a practicing coach with a minimum of 3 years demonstrated coaching/technical experience or high-level playing experience.
- Be able to commit hours to scheduled 1:1 learning throughout the week, which includes attendance at a number of practices and game days over a 6 month period.

* COVID constraints will dictate whether the 1:1 learning will be virtual or in-person, but the commitment to inclusive accommodation will remain.

Highly competitive applicants will:

- Hold a commitment to the development of their teams through a mindset of servant leadership, along with an understanding of the club’s ethos: Hard Work,  Humility and Diligence.
- Demonstrate a long-standing commitment to the game through education and coaching licensure.
- Be able to speak clearly and confidently to their own personal coaching philosophy and how it has can be implemented in a technical situation.

What to Expect: Front Office Fellowship

Over the 2022 Season, participants in the Front Office Fellowship will receive 1:1 education and hands-on learning across all New Mexico United areas of business. This includes:

- Match Day: Planning & Execution
- Merchandising & Retail Operations
- Brand, Voice and Communications
- Somos Unidos Foundation & Community Relations
- Corporate Partnership Sales & Activation
- Ticketing & Box Office 

In addition to athletics and club-specific learning, United is excited to offer personal and individualized development support by a staff member trained in Career Development Facilitation for participants, who will be coached through regular reflections on the learning and how it applies in relation to personal and professional goals. We are also committed to developing participants’ network and next steps by setting up conversations with Executives at the United Soccer League (USL) corporate office as a formal element of the program.  

Fellows will receive a stipend upon completion of the program to promote continued learning or certification that will help candidates take next steps for their career in athletics.

To be considered for Fellowship with New Mexico United’s Front Office, candidates must:

- Be a person of color and/or female or identify as nonbinary.
- Be at least 21 years of ageHave a passion for and knowledge of New Mexico United, soccer, the USL and the sports industry.
- Be able to commit hours to scheduled 1:1 learning throughout the week, which can include business hours and game day hours over the 2022 Season. 

New Mexico United is committed to inclusive accommodation of our 2022 Fellows. While we have developed a full curriculum that provides maximum benefit, we will approach the execution of the program with flexibility and consideration to participants.

- Demonstrate aptitude through formal or informal experience, as an emerging or mid-career professional poised to succeed following the Diversity Fellowship Program.
- Be enthusiastic about learning in a nimble startup-like environment.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the club’s ethos: Hard Work, Humility, Diligence and Action.

* New Mexico United recognizes that education access in America has not always been rooted in equity --  so while educational accomplishments reveal important characteristics such as work ethic and ability to accomplish long-term goals, candidates will not be penalized for lack of formal education if these qualities can be illustrated through other experiences.
